Many people delay estate planning because they assume the process will be overwhelming, confusing, or time-consuming.
We've designed our process to be straightforward, educational, and focused on helping you make informed decisions about your family, your assets, and your future.
For most estate planning clients, the process is completed in just two meetings.
We Learn About Your Family and Design Your Estate Plan
The first meeting is where the most important work happens.
Before we meet, you'll provide information about your family, assets, and any existing estate planning documents. This allows us to focus our time together on planning, strategy, and decision-making rather than simply collecting information.
We begin by learning about you.
We'll discuss your family, your goals, your concerns, and what you want your plan to accomplish. Every family is different, and understanding your unique circumstances is the foundation of building an effective estate plan.
Once we understand your situation, we begin designing your plan together.
The most important part of estate planning is not drafting documents. The most important part is making the right decisions before the documents are drafted.
Most clients are unaware of the planning options available to them. They may not know whether a trust-based plan or a will-based plan is more appropriate. They may not understand how different inheritance structures affect beneficiaries, how incapacity planning works, or how their decisions today could impact their family years from now.
Our role is to help you understand those choices.
We explain the options available to you. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches. We answer your questions. We help you think through scenarios you may never have considered.
Throughout the meeting, we help connect these decisions back to your goals.
The result is not simply a collection of documents. It is a customized plan designed to accomplish what matters most to your family.
By the end of the Discovery & Design Meeting, the major planning decisions have been made and the structure of your estate plan has been established.
You will leave with a clear understanding of how your plan works, why certain strategies were recommended, and how the various pieces fit together.
Our legal team then prepares the documents necessary to implement the plan you designed.
Bringing Your Plan to Life
Once your documents have been prepared, we'll meet again to review everything together.
During this meeting, we'll walk through each document, explain how it works, answer any remaining questions, and confirm that the plan accurately reflects the decisions made during your Design Meeting.
We then guide you through the signing process and ensure your documents are properly executed.
But creating an estate plan involves more than signing documents.
A critical part of this meeting focuses on asset alignment, sometimes called trust funding.
This is the process of coordinating your assets, ownership structure, and beneficiary designations with your estate plan so that everything works together as intended.
One of the most common estate planning mistakes occurs when good documents are paired with assets that have not been properly coordinated.
We'll help you understand the action steps necessary to align your assets with your plan and maximize the effectiveness of the planning you've completed.
By the end of this meeting, your documents will be signed, your implementation steps will be clear, and you'll have a roadmap for moving forward.
A Plan That Grows With You
Life doesn't stand still.
Children become adults. Grandchildren arrive. Retirement happens. Families experience loss. Financial circumstances change.
Your estate plan should evolve as your life evolves.
We encourage clients to review their plans periodically and after significant life events to ensure their planning continues to reflect their goals, family circumstances, and wishes.
Many of our clients view us as a long-term resource for estate planning questions and future updates as life changes.
